20 Ideas for Combating Travelers Depression

  1. Take a long early morning or early evening walk to nowhere. If you’re still new to the city, make sure you have some level of awareness of areas you may want to avoid for security reason

  2. Make a playlist of music that reminds you of certain phases of life (‘Middle school feels’, ‘Roadtrip sing alongs’, ‘freshman year jams, etc’ ; turn the lights down low and have a solo jam session

  3. Find a place in nature to go and read a book; if you don’t like to read, cloud watching works too ;)

  4. Dance — by yourself, in the kitchen, in a stairwell, while walking to the grocery store…. Channel your inner footloose

  5. Journal. Even if you feel like you don’t have anything to write about…write about that resistance or those feelings and see what else comes up

  6. Make a meal, set the table, and enjoy without distraction. Notifications OFF

  7. Go to your favorite coffee shop and order a special drink in a mug. Again; no phone, no distractions. A date with yourself

  8. Visit a museum, reserve, or quiet/pensive venue alone.

  9. Draw something. Even if you can’t draw, makes lines or shapes on a page until an image starts to emerge. Or draw stick figure battle scenes (the latter is a personal favorite of mine.

  10. Sing. Make up songs about what you’re doing, what’s happening through your window…have fun with it!

  11. Spend time on a hobby or learning about something you’ve been curious about

  13. Bake or cook something, just for the sake of it. Like… mix shit together in a bowl and see what you end up with. (Actually eating it may or may not be advised

  14. Have a spa day at home. Soak those feet, use that sheet mask thats been buried in the bowels of your travel pack for the past few weeks…you know that one Im talking about…

  15. Meet up with or Skype someone who makes you feel supported.

  16. Try something fun or relaxing you've always wanted to do but haven't gotten around to yet.

  17. Find the nicest and highest rated restaurant in your budget and take yourself out to a bomb ass dinner. #treatyoself

  18. Get a massage.

  19. Watch the sunset or sunrise.

  20. Meditate.
